History of patient navigation continued

The first patient navigation program

Because of what he learned during the hearings prompted Dr. Freeman began the first patient navigator program at Harlem Hospital Center in 1990. This program was paid for by the American Cancer Society. The navigators helped patients with low-income or in groups that did not tend to get the medical care they needed.

The program was assessed to see if patient navigator made a difference. It turned out that patients who worked with patient navigators got care faster than those who did not.
